In the materialistic Western society in which we live, reading about the Native American tradition of the potlatch is very interesting. Potlatch is a tradition that values generosity above all else, and a potlatch ceremony is an exercise in giving away material possessions, food, and money. Potlatches validate generosity and encourage the flow of resources in a community, while at the same time continually reaffirming the importance of community ties.
You can read the full article which I read, at the Daily OM website. It’s a wonderful thought, to try some unexpected generosity – and to see how it can strengthen ties in your own community.
Enjoy it!
